In August 2024, the Famine Review Committee confirmed famine in the Darfur region, which includes the Zamzam IDP camp. As of June 2024, over half of Sudan's population (25.6 million people) were facing food insecurity, and over 750,000 were living in famine-like conditions. The crisis is caused by crop and livestock destruction, blockades on humanitarian aid, and disruption to harvesting.

As of June 2024, over 12 million people have been forced to flee their homes due to violence. Recent clashes in Sennar State have displaced 151,000 people, and rains have displaced thousands more.

Over 70% of Sudan's healthcare system has collapsed, and preventable diseases are becoming common. In August 2024, Health Minister Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim declared a cholera epidemic after heavy rains contaminated drinking water, and at least 22 people died from the disease.

School closures: At least 10,400 schools in conflict-affected areas are closed, leaving an estimated 19 million children without education.
